The Penthouse at 825 South Hill Street[edit | edit source]
Overview[edit | edit source]
The penthouse at 825 South Hill Street in Downtown Los Angeles was a luxurious high-rise residence and headquarters for Anthony Farrer, the founder of The Timepiece Gentleman. This 19,000-square-foot, two-level penthouse is located in a 53-story tower and is known for its opulence and unique amenities.
Lease and Cost[edit | edit source]
Anthony Farrer signed a two-year lease for the penthouse, starting in May 2022, with a monthly rent of $95,000 for the first 12 months and $100,000 for the remaining 12 months.[1] The lease was negotiated by Lee Mintz of Compass, who represented Farrer in the deal. The penthouse was originally listed at $125,000 per month. Farrer's talked about negotiating skills could have played a part in the reduced rate.
Design and Amenities[edit | edit source]
The penthouse features six bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, a rock-climbing wall, a pool, and three bars. Farrer planned to spend $1 million on furnishing and developing the space, including $200,000 for audio and video equipment. The penthouse also boasts four outdoor lounges with different landscapes, a sauna, and a spa. The commanding views of Los Angeles made it an ideal location for photographing and video marketing content for Farrer’s company.
Security and Privacy[edit | edit source]
Security is a top priority for the penthouse. Clients must register with a building security guard and will be escorted to the penthouse by a separate security guard via a private elevator. This ensures privacy and safety for both Farrer and his clients.
Usage[edit | edit source]
The penthouse was intended to serve multiple purposes: as a residence for Farrer and two of his five staff members, a showroom for luxury timepieces, and a headquarters for The Timepiece Gentleman. Farrer aimed to create a “wow effect” with the penthouse, providing a secure and ultra-luxurious space for his clients. Farrer also trademarked the phrase "Changing the way the west coast shops" to refer to his new operation [2]
Development and Market Impact[edit | edit source]
825 South Hill Street was developed by the Canada-headquartered Onni Group and designed by Chris Dikeakos Architects. The project began in 2016 and started leasing new apartments in 2019. Farrer’s lease deal is seen as a significant milestone in the revival of the luxury market in Downtown Los Angeles, surpassing recent benchmarks like the renovated Singer Building.
Outcome[edit | edit source]
Anthony only spent 3 months in the penthouse and broke his lease. In a YouTube live stream from jail in September 2024, Farrer told Lus that he spent around $1,000,000 during the entire penthouse saga, including the rent, security deposit, and breaking the lease.
